Fords Journey to India

Before he adopted the name Ambarish Das, he was known as Alfred Brush Ford. His mother is the daughter of Edsel Ford, Henry Ford’s son. That makes him a fourth-generation Ford from his mother’s side and a part of one of America’s most iconic families.

In the 1960’S he was free spirited and even confused with a lot going on in the world even Vietnam War. It was during this time he met Sri Prabhupada founder of the ISKCON movement. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), known colloquially as the Hare Krishna movement or Hare Krishnas IS Hindu organization aimed to promote the teachings of Bhagwad Gita.

Alfred Fords life changed after this meeting and he was initiated as a disciple and became Ambarish Das. The changes in Alfreds life included being more responsible and disciplined in all aspects of life. Those days Hare Krishna was thought to be as a cult group and his parents threw him out of the house. He was given permission to enter his house only after his Grand mother intervened.

The Hare Krishna Movement was gaining force in USA and the daughter of the then labour leader, Walter Reuther who was at logger heads with the fords joined the movement. Thant was big news during that time. Both of them worked towards building the new temple in Detroit . The project was completed in March and was handed over to the group in 1976.

Currently Ford is the chairman of the Vedic Cultural Heritage project in Mayapur, West Bengal. It is called as the Temple of the Vedic planetarium, a cultural and spiritual center. The project also aims at opening schools and colleges that will aslo teach science, culture and spiritual science, Vedic sciences and scriptures

What is soul

The soul is the spiritual nature of humankind. It is the incorporeal essence of humankind, and it is thought to be separable from the body at death. In life, it is credited with the faculties of thought, action, and emotion.

In religions like Hinduism, every living being has a soul. The body is just the external entity which has been designed to complete the task for this life. It is believed that the soul is immortal and takes a different form in every life.

The concept of soul is also been spoken about in ancient Egyptians texts. It was a common practice that the dead were accompanied by everything they owned when they were buried. This was done to take care of the soul in after life.
Traditionally, science has dismissed the soul as an object of human belief, or reduced it to a psychological concept that shapes our cognition of the observable natural world. The terms “life” and “death” are thus nothing more than the common concepts of “biological life” and “biological death.” The animating principle is simply the laws of chemistry and physics. You (and all the poets and philosophers that ever lived) are just dust orbiting the core of the Milky Way galaxy.

But these scientific concepts has been challenged by a new wave of thinking called Biocentrism.
Life and consciousness are central to this new view of being, reality and the cosmos. Although the current scientific paradigm is based on the belief that the world has an objective observer-independent existence, real experiments suggest just the opposite. We think life is just the activity of atoms and particles, which spin around for a while and then dissipate into nothingness. But if we add life to the equation, we can explain some of the major puzzles of modern science, including the uncertainty principle, entanglement, and the fine-tuning of the laws that shape the universe.
Consider the famous two-slit experiment. When you watch a particle go through the holes, it behaves like a bullet, passing through one slit or the other. But if no one observes the particle, it exhibits the behavior of a wave and can pass through both slits at the same time. This and other experiments tell us that unobserved particles exist only as ‘waves of probability’ as the great Nobel laureate Max Born demonstrated in 1926. They’re statistical predictions – nothing but a likely outcome. Until observed, they have no real existence; only when the mind sets the scaffolding in place, can they be thought of as having duration or a position in space. Experiments make it increasingly clear that even mere knowledge in the experimenter’s mind is sufficient to convert possibility to reality.

Many scientists dismiss the implications of these experiments, because until recently, this observer-dependent behavior was thought to be confined to the subatomic world. However, this is being challenged by researchers around the world. In fact, just this year a team of physicists (Gerlich et al, Nature Communications 2:263, 2011) showed that quantum weirdness also occurs in the human-scale world. They studied huge compounds composed of up to 430 atoms, and confirmed that this strange quantum behavior extends into the larger world we live in.

Importantly, this has a direct bearing on the question of whether humans and other living creatures have souls. As Kant pointed out over 200 years ago, everything we experience – including all the colors, sensations and objects we perceive – are nothing but representations in our mind. Space and time are simply the mind’s tools for putting it all together. Now, to the amusement of idealists, scientists are beginning dimly to recognize that those rules make existence itself possible. Indeed, the experiments above suggest that objects only exist with real properties if they are observed. The results not only defy our classical intuition, but suggest that a part of the mind – the soul – is immortal and exists outside of space and time.

“The hope of another life” wrote Will Durant “gives us courage to meet our own death, and to bear with the death of our loved ones; we are twice armed if we fight with faith.”

And we are thrice armed if we fight with science.

5 Signs Its Lust and Not Love

The initial stages of any attraction is  Lust. Its the liking towards the curves, body and the dream to sleep with the person which drives you into pursuing  the person  you are attracted to. You might think its love, but it’s actually Lust. Lust magnifies the  physical activity and does not take care of the emotional part of any relationship. And once the Lust wears of its shine, the relationship  also wears off.

“Lust is a mysterious wound in the side of humanity; or rather, at the very source of its life! To confound this lust in man with that desire which unites the sexes is like confusing a tumor with the very organ which it devours, a tumor whose very deformity horribly reproduces the shape. Georges Bernanos”

However real love is beyond all the physical attraction and the desire to mate. It is the emotional connection one finds with another person, the meeting of the heart, the willingness to do anything to make the other person happy.

So what are the key signs which  indicates that the relationship which you think is LOVE is actually LUST.

  1. You always dressed to impress your partner. Dressed impeccably, polished shoes, following the latest trends, and always looking to impress your partner with your fashion sense is a sure sign that the relationship you are in is Lustful. Women put on the perfect make up, wear clothes which highlight their body. Men are well groomed and in their best suit. The reason is that you don’t want your partner to see you otherwise. The relationship is superficial.

2. Find shortage of topics to talk about. When your mind is always focused on SEX, then you don’t have many topics to speak about.  There is no sharing of feelings, dreams and the problems you are facing. In fact you are uncomfortable sharing this with your partner. The relationship has not reached a point where sharing of feelings and thoughts are normal. When it comes to Love , the emotional connect is important. Lust is just a shallow relationship focused only one thing.

3. It does not accept imperfections. Lust magnifies  only the goodness in the person and disregards the imperfections in a person. Since you put the person you desire on a pedestal , you feel that person can do no wrong. However when you are truly in love, you accept the persons imperfections. You accept the fact that they can be wrong sometimes. Its this realization which makes love blossom. You don’t care about the physical relationship, but what lies inside the person beyond the appearance.  That is what True love is. Otherwise it is Lust

4. Majority of Your time together is spent on making love.  Since there is very less conversation time, most of the time is spent on being physically intimate. All the activities you do end up in only one thing , i.e. Sex. Most of the time in such kind of relationship Sex is the only way they expressed their feelings. Most the memories of your relationship don’t go beyond your bedroom. That’s the place you spend most of the time.  You don’t go on dates or any public space.

5. No plans for future. In a lustful relationship you will tell the person how beautiful  they are, but when it comes to commitment, you are tight lipped. You have not thought about the future—Kids, House, Sharing money.

The fact remains that  a relationship based on Lust has a very short shelf life. Once the physical aspect wears out and the bed is broken , the relationship is also broken.

Five things which Non-Achievers Do Regularly and Screw their lives.

So in life you get what you deserve. The stars have not been yet aligned correctly for you to achieve what you wanted. Even though you tried hard, the time was not yet right for you to achieve your goals.  Lot of times when it comes to non achievers, they seem to follow a pattern. The patterns is a structured way of self destruction .

Below are the things Non –Achievers do :

They wait for things to happen. Biggest issue with Non –Achievers is that they don’t try to make things happen. They wait for things to happen. The biggest excuse for not achieving their goals is “ I am waiting for good things to happen”. As a result they don’t achieve anything in their lives. Even though opportunities might be near their door, they don’t seem to be aware as they are waiting for the opportunity to  call out of them and request them to take it up.

The body language says it all. They are the slowest people on earth. The body language of Non achievers can be recognized easily. Shoulder drooped, weak handshake,  Non focused eye moments, Low voice and Tired look. They seem to be not confident in the work they do and way they present themselves in front  of other people.

They gossip a lot. This is what they are really good at. Talking about others to others. This their favourite hobby is to create another group of non- achievers  and exchange notes on others.

They complain a lot. Since they don’t achieve much in their life, they are the biggest complain boxes, you can see around.  They complain about Life, Work, Wife, Family, Weather, Current political scenario, Oil Prices and everything under  the sun. Since they complain a lot , they don’t have time to achieve anything in their lives.

They don’t upgrade themselves.  The biggest issue with non-achievers is the fact that they think they everything they need to know. As a result they don’t learn anything new. No new skills. So they remain where they are in their lives.

In the Long Run : Lessons from Completing a Marathon

Ya akhoee (O brother in Arabic) would you like sit in the Ambulance shouted the doctor. I tried to put on a brave smile and told him “No thank you”. It was the last 5 kilo metres of my first marathon and after running for 37 kilometers, I was not about to give up. My wife and my friends cheered me on. Running a marathon requires a lot of “Running”. You have to train close to six months for running this race. A distance of 42.3 kms is not easy to cover. I spent most of the days after work “Running” and most of my weekends “Running”. Working six days a week did not make it any easier. The lessons I learnt during the process of running the marathon were many. I want to share these lessons with you.

Lesson 1 : Be clear on the objective : It is a simple question you can ask yourself. “Why do you want to do this? “ Why did you choose do this? “ Being clear on the objective helps you to focus. My objective for running the marathon was to get a feeling of achievement. For once in my lifetime I wanted to experience the feeling of working on a project, following through it and in the end completing it. My life was like a roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs, starting projects enthusiastically and later giving it up for silly reasons and I wanted to complete at least one project in my life.

Lesson 2 : Don’t try to climb the mountain yourself—Take Help. When I decided to train for my first marathon, I was looking for help. I did not know anything about running a marathon. While researching I found that there were a lot of running clubs in Dubai. I got in touch with Malcum Murphy of Dubai Creek Striders Club. It was great meeting him and the group helped me to train for my first marathon. The best thing for me as a novice was to hear stories from others as to how they trained for their first marathon. For any goal you want to achieve in your life, it becomes easier if you can associate with people who have achieved the goal before or people who want to achieve the same goal as yourself. You get more ideas for achieving your goals.

Lesson 3 : Take Baby steps—–“A journey of a thousand miles begin with a single step”. I would like to change this quote to “A journey of a thousand miles begins with baby steps”. Start slowly. A journey for running a marathon begins with you seeing if you can run atleast half the distance. I ran a half marathon a month before the race. One of the major mistakes which a novice marathon runner makes is to start from the very front of the starting line at the beginning of the race. As a result they start running at a fast pace at the beginning of the race and are unable to complete the race as they run out of steam. Start slow and then gain pace. The most important part of the race is the last 21 kilo metres that is where you need your energy. Start slow, analyze your mistakes, correct the mistakes and then gain speed from the half way mark to achieve your goals.

Lesson 4 : Have a support group—My support group were the members of the running club, my family and friends. The icing on the cake for me was my wife running with me for the last 50 meters of the race. She was there throughout the course of training and running the race. It was a great feeling to be running with her. A support group helps you by giving feedback, correcting your mistakes. Most importantly they help you to keep your motivational levels high. So the question you have to ask yourself when you are trying to achieve your goal—“Who are part of your support group”.

5 ways of handling the disappointment of not getting promoted in your job

Anger will  burn inside you. Hatred pops its head up inside your  brain. The biggest disappointment in ones life is when your friend betrays you. These were the thoughts I had in my mind when I was told by the Manager ( my friend) that I wont be getting promoted .I was really looking forward for this as I was  in that zone of my life where everything was going on well. I was the best performer in my organization. Apart from performing individually, I used to help others achieve their goals. I was a mentor to all the new comers and everyone used to look up to me. I was even told by the Manager ( my friend) to start getting used to leading others permanently. And then when the date of confirmation arrived, I was told that I did not get the promotion. Instead a person who had lesser experience and younger in age was given charge.

I am sure this is something you have also faced at some time in your life. I would like to share what I did during those times which helped me to keep my sanity.

Lesson  1: Don’t quit your job in Anger. It’s okay to be angry and throw a tantrum. You are well within your rights to do so. It’s a natural reaction when you are expecting something and then  don’t get it.  But the most foolish thing to do will be quit your job in anger. That to me is one of the most foolish thing to do. The reason is that, unless and until you have already another job in hand, it’s pointless to leave the job just because one did not get promoted.  So be angry , but don’t get emotional  and quit. As a wise man once said” You get paid , even when you are angry in your current job”. So start the process of looking out for a job, but don’t quit.

Lesson 2: Don’t be angry at the new Boss. You can be angry at not getting the promotion, you always wanted, but don’t take out your anger on the New Boss. When I lost my job, the Colleague who was going to be my boss knew that I was the senior most person with more experience than him and he was scared too. But when he joined , I took him around the organization and introduced him to everyone. I also told him that I will support him. This would have surprised my colleague, but I am sure he would have been relieved to have me on his side rather than work against him. Please remember it’s important to treat the Boss as a human being. It was not his fault that you did not get the job in the first place.

Lesson 3: Take your anger out in your performance. It is important to get your mojo back after the disappointment. The best distraction to this is to channelize your inner anger towards giving your best at the job in hand. I did that in the month I did not get the promotion I desired. Again the new boss was happy as the organization performed well in the first month.  Its important that you don’t try to work against the new Boss. Work with him and he will support you.

Lesson 4: Continue with your learning. It is important to channelize the disappointment in not getting promoted to better learning. You can always ask , what needs to be done.  Work on the faults and improve on the knowledge you  already have.  Opportunities as always there in a organization. Its not the end of the world. You have to keep on learning and keep an eye open  for new opportunities.

Lesson 5:  Believe in Karma. So all the above 4 lessons which I learned from my disappointment helped me to stay in my current job. And the patience inside me, the way I treated my new Boss, The way I performed in my job despite the disappointment helped me get a double promotion within 1 year of loosing the opportunity to be a manager. As its said “ Keep up your efforts and the reward shall come”

Sometimes we dont know what to write

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one’s view’s and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one’s valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to write.

5 Reasons Why Presentations Fail

I am sure you have been through many presentations where you got the feeling to flee the room or take a dive from the top floor. Yes presentations can kill too. The reasons why they can kill is because the presenter does not do enough to make it interesting for the people who attend the presentation. So what are the key reasons presenters fail:

Death by Power Point

Reason one: Too Much Power point. Power point is a great medium for doing a presentation. But this is currently an overused medium for presentation. As a result the viewer does not see any thing different as compared to other presentations he has attended . So the audience gets bored. There are presenters who also type everything they want to say in the power point. So when they  put the slide up , the audience is busy reading from the power point rather than listening to the presenter.  This is a common mistake by lot of novice presenters and the end result is a boring presentation.  Presenters should understand that  people come to listen to the presenter and not to see the PowerPoint. PowerPoint should only be used to support the presenter and should not overpower the presenter.

Trying to get everyone interested in the presentation

Reason two:  Presenter wants to ensure that everyone in the audience understands what he is  presenting. So if he sees anyone in the audience not listening to him then the presenter tries very hard to get the point  across to  the person who is not listening .  The result is that he looses connect with others and the presentation becomes boring.  Presenters should understand that it’s difficult to influence everyone in the audience. So he should focus on those people who are actually listening to the presentation and not get bothered by people who are not listening to them. The presenter should focus on getting the message across to majority of the participants.

Memorizing the Presentation

Reason Three:  Presenter tries to memorize the presentation.  It is a common mistake people do. They get inspired by some one making a great presentation for one hour without using any notes. So they try to do the same. As a result if they forget a word they forget the whole  presentation. Presenters should understand that their main job of a presenter  is  to convey the message from the presentation. There are no extra grades for memorizing a presentation. Most of the top presenters have tele prompters and have some one in the back round moving the slides. Each and everything they have to say is written in the notes and the presenters take help of those notes. If teleprompters are not available then its okay to carry notes and look at it if needed. There is no need to pressurize yourself by  attempting to memorize the presentation.

Time Management

Reason 4: Time not being tracked. Presenters don’t prepare for the time and as a result they are unable to convey the message they want to deliver. For the audience this means no closure. This can also bore the audience as the presenter is unable to convey the core message.  Presenters should value the time given to them to make a presenter. And if the presenter is using slides then the presenter should use the ratio of 3 minutes per slide. This will help him to prepare accordingly.

Reason 5: Trying to impress the boss. When the boss is part of the audience then most presenters  think of this as a opportunity to impress the boss. They think that this is one the ways to get a promotion or a hike in the salary. As a result they put too much pressure on themselves and the presentation fails. The presenter must understand that their job as presenters to take care of the audience. Nobody has got promoted because onf one presentation and no one has lost a job because of a failed presentation. So don’t put too much pressure on yourself.

Railway Tracks Distance and Marriage

The Distance between two railway tracks is 143.5 cms. What a absurd measurement. Why couldn’t it be a good round figure like 150 cms. The reason of the measurement being absurd is due to the fact that when they first building railway tracks they used the same tools which was used for making horse drawn carriages. And the reason for that absurd measurement is because the road the horse carriages used to travel was 143.5 cms. So who decided this distance. On further research you will know that the measurement of 143.5 cms was decided by  our great road builders the Romans. The reason is that during Roman times the carriage was driven by two horses and when they put two horses side by side the distance was 143.5 cms. So the measurement remained.

The distance between the tracks on which our state of the art trains run now has been determined by Romans. So wherever people went to build railroads , it never occurred to them that the measurement should be changed. This even effected our space program. The scientists wanted to build wider fuel tanks, but since they were transported to the space centre by train, the tunnels could not not transport wide fuel tanks and so the size of the fuel tanks became small.

But what has all this got to do with marriage.

Just like the absurd measurement of the railway track, people or the societal norms decided that when two people get married they must frozen in a distance for time immemorial. Even if sometime one of you might want to move forward a little or want to get closer a little, this was against the rules made by the society. The rules which was drawn by the society was “ Think about your children, think about your family, think about what other people will say”. You cant change, you must be like two railway tracks that remain the same distance all the way from the start of the marriage and till one of the partners die. The rules don’t allow the love to change or to grow –it is too dangerous people say. And so after the enthusiastic first few years, we fall into the monotony of married life. Sam process, same monotony , day after day and year after year. Somehow your purpose in life is to maintain the distance of 143.5 cms throught your married life. It does not matter if  you are not happy with the arrangement, the distance can never be changed. Even though you might be unhappy, you have to think of the children you bought in this world, your parents, your neighbours, your friends, your social circle.

Think of your neighbours. Show them you are happy, eat good food, keep yourself up-to-date with the latest serials and help the community. Think of the society, dress in your Sunday best all the time , so that everyone knows what a perfect life you have. At the se times you cannot be seen looking sideways, because you are forever afraid on what people will think and this could bring in depression and temptation. This could mean disaster. Smile in all the photos. Put that photos in every room of the house. Update your facebook profile every day, change your wats app status, tweet your happiness and post happy quotes in Instagram. All this have become the measure for people to understand hpow happy your life is. Mow you lawn and do practice a sport because that’s what the society has determined as key performance indicators of your happy married life. Do every to show others how happy you are , but do not forget that the rules for happy married life was determined by the society many years ago and you are just following what has been prescribed to you. The rules have to be respected and followed just like the way distance between the railway tracks were determined by the Romans
